How to Apply for a Minority Business Grant

Written by: abrowell 378 views

Applying for one of the business grants available to minority groups is not as difficult as you think. There are millions of dollars available to help minority groups in the world of business,  including women and people from ethnic backgrounds.

The process to apply for one of these grants is quite simple but there are certain steps to take to secure the monies available.

Steps

  1. Decide on the grant that is specific for you. Do you need money for college? Are you starting a business? Are you looking for money for a home? Whatever the reason you have for the grant, this needs to be clear and the place to start.
  2. Do an online search. An excellent place to start is grants.gov. Simply by clicking on their “Find Grant Opportunities” tab on their home page, you will be taken to a page where you can search for minority grant programs.
  3. Make an application for the grant. Once you have found the grant you are looking for, download the application and fill it out and then submit it.
  4. Unfortunately, you need to wait. After submitting your application there is nothing you can do but wait for an answer. This usually takes anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to find out if you have been accepted or denied.
  5. If your grant has been denied, start again. There is no limit to the amount of grants you can apply for, so just pick another, fill out and submit the application, and wait for your approval.
  6. Other Resources. Check out other grant websites such as TopGovernmentGrants.com, GrantReviewer.org, or other grant sites you will come across when you search.

Tips

  • Check out info from the CFDA (Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance). These grants are offered for a variety of purposes,do not require a credit check or collateral, and do not require a co-signer. Like all grants, they do not have to be repaid.

Warnings

  • You need to be part of a qualified minority. You need to be a U.S.citizen and have a valid social security number.
  • Make sure the grant money received is used for the purpose in which the grant was given. There can be stiff penalties if it is found that this money was used for other sources.
