How to Three Way Call With Your Blackberry

Written by: MissP 2,258 views

The Blackberry is a very complex, and intelligent piece of technology. On most traditional Wireless Phones, there is what we call the Flash button, which switches between the two lines on a phone, however things are a bit different on a Blackberry. Smartphones are a very different kind of phone, here is how to make a three-way call with your Blackberry.

For the newer series of Blackberrys (curve, bold, etc)

  1. Dial the first contact for the three way call using the address book or dial it directly with the keypad
  2. When you are connected to the first parrty you will then need to conference the second party in.
  3. To start the process, press the Blackberry Menu button which is located next to the green talk button.
  4. From the menu that pops up select ‘Add Participant’
  5. This takes you to your recent calls, here you can select a contact or type the number you wish to conference in at the top of the screen
  6. After selecting the number hit the Green Talk button to dial it, this will put the first caller on hold and call the 3rd party
  7. Once you are connected to the 3rd party, you now need to add them to the conference
  8. Hit the Blackberry Menu button again  and select  ’join conference’
  9. The two calls are now connected and you will now have all parties conferenced in
  10. To disconnect from one caller but not the other, press the Blackberry Menu button again.
  11. Go to the End Call option.
  12. A new screen will pop up asking you who you want to disconnect.
  13. Chose the caller you would like to disconnect.
  14. You have disconnected them.

For older units

  1. Dial your first call using the address book or dial it with the keypad, or await someone else calling.
  2. When the two lines are connected, press the Talk button, or the green call button.
  3. On this screen, type the name or number you want to call. Then press the Talk button again.
  4. Once you are connected with the third line, press the Menu button.
  5. Once the window is opened, press the option that says, Join.
  6. The two calls are now connected.
  7. To disconnect from one caller but not the other, press the Menu button again.
  8. Go to the End Call option.
  9. A new screen will pop up asking you who you want to disconnect.
  10. Chose the caller you would like to disconnect.
  11. You have disconnected them.

Tips

  • This feature is also available when you receive an incoming call during an existing call. The caller you have in call waiting can join with the new caller.

Warnings

  • If a mistake is made while trying to make a three-way call, usually it will disconnect everyone on the phone line, so be careful.
  • If you want to hang up on one person but not the other, do not press the End Call button

  1. I’m baffled. I use a BBRY Curve and it doesn’t do anything that is described in your article (the “Join” and “which caller” don’t exist. I’ve been fighting this for weeks after an embarrassing episode when a third party didn’t disengage and listened to a follow up conversation. I’ve called the provider (Verizon) and BBRY and both tell me it can’t be done (affirmatively disconnect the third caller).

If you have suggestions or know what I may be doing wrong I’d love to hear from you.

My mother drew a distinction between achievement and success. She said that ‘achievement is the knowledge that you have studied and worked hard and done the best that is in you. Success is being praised by others, and that’s nice, too, but not as important or satisfying. Always aim for achievement and forget about success.’
